B.C.

Last month Darcy and I drove from Vancouver to Calgary.  We were absolutely astonished by the dramatic Canadian landscape.  Every turn held a new view.  Each view was like a postcard.

As we drove through British Colombia we stopped for some lunch at a small diner which claimed to specialise in international cuisine.  Despite the waitress’ ironic racism she gave us some good advice on things to do in BC.  The first was to take a detour to hear a free concert featuring this band.  The second was to take a stop in Salmon Arm to visit one of the best fruit stores in BC. Even though I am a big fan of the film “A Mighty Wind” we decided to pass on the first option but take up the second.

At Pedro Gonzalez Fruit and Garden we were bowled over by all the delicious cherries, blueberries and other summer fruits.

There were a variety of pies on sale: cherry, apple, peach and blueberry.  The woman who was mopping the floor happened to also make all of the pies fresh that morning and recommended the mini blueberry pies.  We couldn’t resist.  The pastry was sweet and biscuity.  The blueberries hadn’t been cooked at all, just tossed in a homemade jam, they were sweet, big and juicy.  Basically the whole experience was delicious.
